To vaccinate or not to vaccinate...

First off, my apologies for the beyond-cliche post title.  Here's a link to an article discussing the dilemma that the U.S. may have to face in terms of which vaccine to mass-produce: one for the seasonal flu, which is estimated to kill 500,000 people a year, or one for swine flu, which, though intimidating, has infected FAR fewer people.  This is an interesting and timeless question in the sub-field of economic epidemiology, and one we witnessed in the smallpox eradication campaign (when to stop mass-vaccinations, etc.).
